We’re pretty sure you’re all familiar with Christian, Dylan, and Max McCaffrey. After all, they are well-loved throughout Colorado and are known for their amazing skills in football.
Aside from their list of achievements and rewards, these brothers are also kind, helpful, and ‘lifesavers.’
It was 2018 when Dan Smoker, Jr., 72, went on a hike with his grandson, then 13-year-old Eli, when an accident occurred.

Many people come to Colorado to hike on Castle Rock. It has a stunning view, and the trail is also enjoyable.
That’s why even locals love to hike.
Dan Smoker Jr. and his grandson, Eli, are among the people who love to hike. That day, they even took a photo.

“I thought I heard like the sound of a shoe slipping and somebody saying ‘oh,’” said Eli.
The young man was alarmed, and then when he turned around, he saw what happened to his grandfather.
“It sounded like my grandpa, so I turned around and I saw him hit the ground,” Eli told CBS.

At 72, Dan Smoker Jr. fell over 20 ft.
Eli rushed down, and his heart was racing. He was also confused, as no one seemed to care about the old man falling.
According to the boy, his grandpa sounded like he was snoring, but he was trying his best to breathe. Eli was already in panic and he was so afraid that his grandpa won’t be able to breathe.

It was a very sad situation for a young man to see that people just went on walking.
Just then, Eli noticed four men approach them.
One of the men introduced himself as Christian McCaffrey, but because of the situation, Eli didn’t realize who he was.

The four men who rushed to help were Max, Christian, and Michael McCaffrey, along with their friend, Michael Mann.
“One of the McCaffrey brothers was on the phone with 911… and then Michael was holding and helping my grandpa,” Eli recalled. “Had they done what other people were doing and just kept walking, I would’ve just been alone.”

They rushed grandpa Smoker Jr. to Sky Ridge Medical Center where the doctors said that he suffered a broken neck, bleeding from his brain, fractured pelvis, and other broken bones.
Eli’s grandpa was in critical condition.
According to Smoker III, Eli’s father, they were out of town, celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary.

They left Eli with Smoker Jr., and they hiked.
“It was one of the more trying moments of my life, honestly,” Smoker III told CBS. “They saved my dad’s life. There’s no reason that he’s here today except for them and the miracle that they brought.”
The whole family was beyond grateful to these young men.

Rescuing grandpa Smoker Jr. wasn’t the only thing they did. The young football superstars frequently visited the patient to get an update on his health condition.
“He’s here, he’s living now, which is great. We didn’t think he was gonna make it, but he’s living now. I think he’s going to come out to a game this year which will be a lot of fun. He’s walking, I don’t know how he’s not paralyzed, but the guy’s a fighter man,” said McCaffrey in a follow-up interview.
